Tie-dye on 100% cotton for limited runs
Tie-dye is a manual dyeing technique — tying, twisting or folding fabric before dyeing to create a unique blended pattern, so no two pieces are ever fully identical. Startee dyes on 100% cotton fabric, using a color way the customer chooses or supplies.
Why choose tie-dye
- Creates a one-of-a-kind product, ideal for local brands that want to stand out from ordinary printed t-shirts.
- A natural blended pattern that can’t be fully replicated by a printer.
- Can be combined with other printing technologies (DTG, embroidery) after dyeing to add a logo or text.
Limitations to know
- No two pieces are ever fully identical — fine when the customer accepts each shirt as its own piece, not suited to a company uniform that needs exact consistency across every shirt.
- Only dyes accurately on 100% cotton; polyester blends take the color unevenly.
- Tying, dyeing, washing and drying takes longer than flat printing methods, so it doesn’t suit a rush order.
Best fit: local brands, limited collections, products with a distinctive, individual style.
