Year-End Party in Vietnam: What to Wear, Team Shirts

A year-end party (YEP) is a company’s end-of-year celebration: a review of the year, awards for people and teams, thanks to staff and partners, usually with performances, games and a lucky draw. In Vietnam, YEPs typically run from mid-December until just before Lunar New Year (Tet).

What to wear to a year-end party

Depending on the theme and size, four approaches are common:

  • Team shirts with the logo and the year’s slogan: one color for everyone, an even group photo, and shirts people wear again.
  • One color per department: same artwork, different shirt colors, great for team games.
  • Shirts with each person’s name, nickname or a fun title: everyone gets something unique, which makes for great photos.
  • A formal dress code (suits, gowns, áo dài) for an evening gala: team shirts are then used for daytime team-building.

Preparing shirts: a countdown

  1. 3–4 weeks before: settle the theme, shirt color and print content (logo, slogan, individual names if any).
  2. 2–3 weeks before: collect sizes by each person’s height and weight using the uniform size chart; approve the mockup.
  3. About 2 weeks before: place the order. Stock blanks usually print in 3–5 working days, plus shipping; add a few buffer days, since December and the last lunar month are peak season.
  4. 2–3 days before: receive the shirts, check counts and sizes, sort them by department.

T-shirt or polo?

Crew-neck T-shirts feel young and take large multi-color prints, ideal for a fun theme. Polos look smarter and suit companies that want staff to wear them to work afterwards. Full comparison in team-building shirts: polo or crew neck.
