Common questions
T-Shirt Printing with a VAT Invoice in Vietnam
When uniforms, event shirts or class shirts are paid from a company budget, a school fund or an organization’s account, the buyer usually needs a VAT invoice (hoá đơn GTGT) for payment and bookkeeping. This guide covers what to ask before ordering, so tax isn’t added unexpectedly at the end.
Who needs a VAT invoice for printed shirts?
- Companies ordering uniforms, team-building or event shirts — to book the expense.
- Schools, faculties, associations and clubs paying from a shared fund — to settle the accounts.
- Anyone who pays for a group and claims the money back from their organization.
What to ask before ordering
- Does the quote include VAT, and at what rate? A quote without VAT looks cheaper even when it isn’t — see cheap shirt printing quotes.
- Is the printer a registered company with a tax code you can look up, or a household business? Household businesses usually issue only a sales invoice, not a VAT (GTGT) invoice.
- Will the invoice carry your organization’s exact name, tax code and address, and how will the goods be described (e.g. “Printed logo T-shirts”)?
- When and how will the e-invoice be sent?
Details needed to issue the invoice
- Your organization’s name, exactly as registered for tax.
- Tax code.
- Registered address.
- An email address to receive the e-invoice.
What “VAT included” means — an example
If listed prices include 8% VAT, you pay exactly the quoted amount; the invoice splits it into the goods value and the tax. For example, an order of 1,080,000 VND including VAT is invoiced as 1,000,000 VND of goods plus 80,000 VND of 8% VAT.
If a quote excludes VAT, the tax is added when you ask for the invoice — the same 1,000,000 VND of goods becomes 1,080,000 VND.
| Price includes 8% VAT | Price excludes VAT | |
|---|---|---|
| Amount on the quote | 1,080,000 VND | 1,000,000 VND |
| Amount you pay with an invoice | 1,080,000 VND | 1,080,000 VND |
| Goods value on the invoice | 1,000,000 VND | 1,000,000 VND |
| 8% VAT on the invoice | 80,000 VND | 80,000 VND |
